Line Work
In this series I repeatedly drop ink from a central point or the edges of the paper and draw outwards. Each line attempts to follow the line before. Natural irregularities occur that have the effect of creating a wave like texture giving the illusion of a three-dimensional surface. In addition to the ink based works I experiment with another technique: scratching lines into oil paint to reveal the lighter acrylic colour underneath. The repetition of this again produces a three-dimensional quality. The thickness of the oil paint and lines give a contoured impression reminiscent to me of skin and land.
This body of work is a reinvestigation of the processes developed within Mandalas (2011) and has formed the basis for much of my illustrative work.
Related projects: Semi Circles.
